Travel tips for first time flyers
Plan your journey ahead
When flying for the first time the whole experience can be daunting, if you know what to expect it can makes things a lot easier. Here are some tips to make your flight even more comfortable and relaxed. Before you go you should make an itinerary or plan of the journey ahead, so you know exactly what you have packed and what you still have to do before leaving the house plus what times you will be arriving at the airport, hotel, etc.
Arrive early
You should arrive at the airport around 2 hours before your flight is due to depart, this will give you plenty of time to check your bags and go through security checks with time to relax in the departure lounge before the flight.
Pay attention to the flight crew
When on board the aircraft pay attention to the flight crew during the safety demonstration! It doesn’t matter how boring or uninteresting you find it, it could save your life in an emergency situation. It is also a good idea to make a mental note of the exits and read the aircraft emergency procedure manual. If you know all these things then you can relax have a comfortable flight.
Checking in
When checking baggage you should make sure they are not overweight or you will be charged with handling fees, most airlines have a strict policy on the weight you are allowed, also hand luggage should be within a certain width and height.
If you are not sure what the restrictions of items in hand luggage are then it is a good idea to ask at the check in desk or with a member of security, this will stop any complications at the security gate like losing the item or a full bag search.
Be prepared
It is a good idea to be prepared for airline delays, pack something in your carry on luggage to keep you entertained if a delay happens, a book, mp3 player/ipod, crossword puzzles, etc, which can keep you occupied during the flight too. You should bring earphones to listen to music or watch the in flight film as airlines charge for the use of their earphones.
